Communications / Marketing / Graphic Design Volunteer Expert at International Executive Service Corps (IESC) July 2019

Background
The Tanzania Enabling Growth through Investment and Enterprise Program (ENGINE) is a USAID-funded Feed the Future activity that aims to streamline and enhance many of the regulatory, informational and financial channels that encourage domestic and foreign investment in the southern mainland agricultural regions of Mbeya, Morogoro, and Iringa, and in Zanzibar.

ENGINE works at the district level, using a broad-based approach to engage with district Local Government Authorities (LGAs), private sector associations, business development service providers, financial institutions and small and medium enterprises.

Opportunity Statement
The global demand for pyrethrum as an organic pesticide is growing every day. Tanzania is one of the worlds’ largest producers and there remain opportunities for production expansion and improved productivity. The Pyrethrum Company of Tanzania (PCT) is the only processor in Tanzania and would like to see increased production in the country to support the growing market demand. The Sokoine University Graduate Entrepreneurs Cooperative (SUGECO) is an agricultural service supporting commercial agriculture development with graduates from Sokoine University.

SUGECO is in a position to provide business training and farming management tools to farms wishing to enter into Pyrethrum production in coordination with technical support with PCT. The partnership between the two requires the mobilization of resources to develop a Pyrethrum (Chrysanthemum Daisies) package of services that would be offered to farmers on a fee basis.
In order to initiate the needed fee based seminars to promote the services from SUGECO and the production of Pyrethrum, the USAID-ENGINE project, acting as a facilitator, would support the two organizations with a volunteer consultant who would assist in the design, formatting and content of the needed materials.
