Tanzania Media Foundation (TMF) is seeking applications from senior journalists or editors interested in working on investigative stories of national or public interest that have great potential to generate positive change and impact on the lives of ordinary Tanzanians.
Who: To qualify, you will have a demonstrable track-record of working on investigative public interest stories and preferably be able to produce multimedia (combining print/text and audio-visual) content. You will be able to work independently and committed to ensuring that your stories result in accountability. Preference will be given to women and past TMF fellowship grantees.
What: You will have an investigative journalism story idea that is of national or public interest such as but not limited to issues of national security, public finance, health or education, natural resource management and so on. Your story should generate demand for immediate attention or require further follow-up in a serious investigation.
Amount: The grant amount is typically not more than Sh6 million, but the final decision on this will depend on TMF’s assessment of each individual application.
To apply: You will pitch your idea in writing in English and in not more than 500 words. Your pitch should clearly state what you want to investigate, why it matters and what kind of accountability as well as positive change can be expected as a result of your work. At this stage, you will not be required to submit a budget or work-plan. For the application form CLICK HERE
Grant duration: Four to six months.
Deadline: The deadline for application is 26 May, 2017 but submissions will be reviewed as they come in and feedback provided to applicants. Applications submitted earlier stand a better chance as feedback and support will be available and applicants can submit revised applications.
TMF envisions a strong and independent Tanzanian media and works to promote investigative and public interest journalism as well as facilitate critical reflection and learning in and about the media. We are committed to building the capacity of media workers and organisations and want to see public trust in the media increase.
