East African Science and Technology Commission (EASTECO) is a newly established Institution of the East African Community (EAC) with its Headquarters in Kigali-Rwanda. The core function of EASTECO is to promote and coordinate the development, management and application of Science and Technology to support regional integration and socio-economic development.
The EASTECO would like to utilise part of its funds from EAC Partner States to recruit an Accountants Assistant (G5).

Duty Station: Kigali, Rwanda
Job Grade: G5
Job reports to: Principal Accountant

Job Purpose:

The main purpose of this job is to facilitate efficient and effective operation of the accounting process.

Duties and Responsibilities:

The duties and responsibilities of the Accounts Assistant are as follows:
  1. To initiate preparation of payment vouchers;
  2. To originate basic Accounting documents and post to the ledger;
  3. To maintain proper filing of all accounting documents;
  4. To conduct daily reconciliation of accounts;
  5. To update ledger cards on a daily basis to ensure compliance with international accounting standards;
  6. To receive cash and check payments and have them banked in the initiative’s designated accounts;
  7. To dispatch signed cheques;
  8. To batch payment vouchers for data input;
  9. To manage petty cash and pay out cash against petty cash vouchers;
  10. To balance the petty cash books on a daily basis and prepare the cash position statements;
  11. To perform any other related duties as may be assigned from time.

Qualifications and Experience:

Education:
  1. Bachelor’s Degree in Commerce (Accounting or Finance Option) or equivalent;
  2. Must possess Part II of Professional Accounting qualification (e.g. CPA, ACCA, ICPAU);
Work Experience:
  1. Relevant working experience of not less than 5 years, in accounting finance environment;
  2. Proficiency in computer-based accounting and general office computer applications (Microsoft applications Including Word, Excel and Outlook).

Skills and Competencies:

  1. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  2. Self-motivated with ability to work with minimum supervision.

Eligibility:

The candidate must not be more than 54 years old.

Fringe Benefits:

The position is at EAC G5 scale with corresponding Salary specified for it.
