Position:Principal – Special Education Needs

Position Summary:

Manage the Autistic administration office.

Deal with parents, staff and children positively in regard to the smooth and effective running of school.

Guide the teaching staff in ensuring the goals and curriculum laid is met.

Key Responsibilities:

Inventory:

Check that the class teacher has handed over all the appropriate books to the students. Any extra books for absent students must be noted and locked up and the keys handed to the office
Ensure that the class teacher has listed all the items in the class cupboard and pasted a list on the inside of the door. Any losses must be reported to the Principal.
Ensure that the class teachers complete a proper inventory of their classes at the end of the term and check that everything is in order. Planning:
Work with the teachers to prepare schemes of work. Monitor and encourage them to prepare updated, informative and interesting notes. To use all resources available to create thought provoking assignments that will meet the aim of overall learning.
Ensure that teachers at the grade level meet weekly to streamline the syllabus coverage.
Follow up by making unplanned checks that all school diaries are updated properly and followed up by Parents and teachers. Monitor and follow up year planners and work schemes that must be put together in advance. Discuss and reflect upon previous planners. Use this as a guideline to make changes and update the syllabus
Encourage teachers to write out proper well thought out lesson plans that will motivate the students and allow understanding of the subject matter. Guide them to include a variety of activities and teaching methods.
Administrative:

Check that all class registers are filled in accurately and neatly.
Ensure that there is enough and appropriate teaching aids available for all Projects and class work of the term. Put in requests for any necessary resources.
In liaison with the Deputy Principal ensure that a replacement teacher is there to take over incase a class teacher is absent.
Guide the teachers to train their assistants to be good support staff and assist when required.
Make a note of field trips in advance and ensure proper arrangements have been made.
Attempt to solve any problems within your grade level. File these in a report (however minor) to be handed in to the Office and Academic Committee as appropriate.
Direct all Parental issues that require the attention of the administration to the Office and record it for reference.
Avoid taking any concerns personally and allow positive criticism for the betterment of the Institution
Meetings:

Hold weekly meetings with all Class teachers to discuss any issues of the week in all areas of personal and child development. Allow them time to talk to you and voice any concerns. Note these and forward them to the office and Academic Committee.
Share all the information relevant to your team members emanating from the administration.
Attend weekly meetings with the school administration where you share experiences from year levels.
Coordinate with the other year levels to maintain smooth transition and relevant continuity.
Work out and discuss solutions at your weekly meetings.
Assessment:

Discuss with your teachers how to identify and help students with learning difficulties.
Maintain continuous assessment records of each child that shows the students progress on a weekly basis.
Check quality and relevance of all assessment papers in accordance with the scheme and annual planner.Principal – Special Education Needs
