Position Description:

Marie Stopes Tanzania (MST) is a marketing-focused, results-oriented social enterprise, which uses modern management and marketing techniques to provide family planning, reproductive and sexual healthcare and allied services. MST is a member of the Marie Stopes International (MSI) Global Partnership, which operates in over 45 countries worldwide. MST’s goal is to improve quality of life in Tanzania by dramatically improving access to and use of family planning and other reproductive health services.

We are looking for a dynamic individual to join our highly motivated team as an External Relations Lead. The position will report directly to Country Director with matrix responsibilities to the Executive Team.


Responsible for the implementation of the Marie Stopes Tanzania Strategy, policy development and advocacy initiatives in collaboration with relevant partners for the highest attainable impact of MST work in Tanzania. The External Relations Lead is also responsible for high quality reproductive health services that women can access easily.

The role is a leading role in the organization and with matrix responsibilities to the executive team whilst role modelling participation, inclusion and transparency and inspire employees to assume responsibility and accountability.


Strategy Implementation
o   Monitoring of progress in achieving the MST objectives;

o   Review of MST strategy

o   Ensuring the MST strategy is mainstreamed throughout MST, at all levels

o   In close collaboration with the Director of Human Resources build internal capacity to achieve the MST objectives

o   In close collaboration with the Finance Director, develop the annual Business Plan to implement the MST strategy

o   Monitor and report on the implementation of the annual Business Plan

o   Strengthen the internal collaboration across the organisation and further develop the MST head office to make the organisation work effectively across the commercial and social business.

Policy and Partnership
o   Maintain and strengthen existing partnerships. Identify new partnership and business possibilities.

o   Together with the Country Director engage with the GOT to ensure MST becomes the preferred collaboration partner of the Government.

o   Responsible for delivering the MST advocacy strategy.

o   Promote women’s right to a choice, the right to access the highest attainable quality of reproductive health service

o   Policy analysis and engagement.

o   A University degree in Political Science (and Public Administration) or in Policy Making and Analysis or any equivalent / relevant degree;

o   A Post graduate or Master degree will be an added advantage.

o   At least a 5 years of working in the same or similar role with a reputable organisation, 2 years must be with an International organisation;

o   Traveling to different regions especially in Tanzanian rural areas;

o   Familiar and ever worked in partnership with donor sector, different health organisations and the Government of Tanzania in the areas of advocacy, policy making, analysis and interpretation;

o   Previous experience of managing teams or coordinating corporate change.

o   Good communication skills, attention to detail and able to communicate with impact (including advocacy, brand management, media relations and fundraising);

o   Able to work well independently with self motivation and as well as part of a team. Flexible and agile;

o   Strong planning and management;

o   Strong written and verbal English and Swahili language skills;

o   Computer literate with sound knowledge in applications especially MS Word, Power Point and Excel;

o   Ability to multi task, work effectively and efficiently especially when under pressure;

o   High competency in analysis and reports writing;
